Fundamentals of Software Installation
The Fundamentals of Software Installation workshop is a 1-day training event that covers the basics of software installation and management from a user-perspective on Linux systems. It starts with fundamental concepts and works through several examples on an HPC cluster. Language-specific package management is a common issue for cluster users. We cover Python packing and virtual environments with Anaconda as well as an intermediate level overview of how Jupyter kernels work.
The day concludes with software containerization and how to build and run containers on RCAC clusters.
Participants should have at least an introductory-level knowledge of RCAC’s computing systems; the Fundamentals of HPC workshop is recommended as a prerequisite
