Anvil Scheduled Maintenance August 25, 2026

The Anvil cluster will be unavailable on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM EDT while scheduled maintenance is performed. During this maintenance window, we will update the operating system and kernel, storage and file systems, system drivers, and software packages.

Any Slurm job requesting a walltime that extends beyond Tuesday, August 25, at 8:00 AM EDT will not start and will remain in the queue until the maintenance is complete.

Anvil is expected to return to full production by Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at 6:00 PM EDT.

Scholar Cluster Maintenance

The Scholar cluster will be unavailable August 8, 2026 from 8:00am - 5:00pm EDT for scheduled maintenance. The cluster will return to full production by Monday, August 8, 2026 at 5:00PM EDT.

Any jobs which request a walltime which would take them past 08/10/2026 at 8:00am EDT will not start and will remain in the queue until after the maintenance is completed.

Fortress Archive Monthly Maintenance

The Fortress Archive will be unavailable Wednesday, August 5, 2026 from 8:00am - 12:00pm EDT for scheduled monthly maintenance (first Wednesday of every month).

During this time, Fortress will receive normal software and hardware updates. Any transfers which request files sent to or from Fortress will either block or fail until this maintenance is completed.

Bell Scratch Service Impacting Users with Errors

We are currently experiencing an issue with Bell Scratch that is causing users to receive “no space” errors and possibly other errors. We are working with our vendor to troubleshoot and restore service. There is no ETA for resolution at this time, and no ETA for the next update unless that changes.

Duke Power Outage: Fortress, Hammer, and CMS Storage Going Offline

Due to a Duke Power outage, Fortress, Hammer, and CMS storage need to be brought offline. These systems are currently on battery backup.

There is no ETA for restoration at this time. We will update as soon as we have more information or if the power is restored.

Gautschi Scratch Service Impacting Users with Errors

We have noticed intermitent issues that is causing users to receive "Input/output error" on partial Gautschi login nodes (login00, login04 and login06). We are working with our vendors to troubleshoot and restore service on those nodes.

We will provide another update by 9:00 AM tomorrow.

Data Depot service disruption impacting schedulers

Rossmann Cluster Maintenance

The Rossmann cluster will undergo scheduled maintenance on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, beginning at 8:00am EDT to 5:00pm EDT. During this time, Rossmann will be unavailable for all batch and interactive work until maintenance is complete.

Jobs that cannot complete before 8:00am will remain pending until after the maintenance window.

No user action is required, but you may wish to adjust any time‑sensitive workflows or job submissions to avoid the maintenance period. If you have questions, please contact the RCAC help desk at rcac-help@purdue.edu.

To protect running jobs, compute nodes will be set to drain starting at 3:00am EDT on June 24. Jobs that cannot complete before 8:00am will remain pending until after the maintenance window.

Brief Data Depot disruption, community cluster scheduling paused and restored

RCAC experienced a disruption in service on the Data Depot storage system this evening, which required us to temporarily pause job scheduling on the community clusters. The issue has been resolved, schedulers have been resumed.

Geddes Storage Issues

Data Depot storage issue, cluster operations currently paused

We are investigating an issue with the Data Depot storage system that is impacting dependent services.

Users may see failures connecting via Windows/Samba and jobs are affected because all clusters are currently paused while recovery work proceeds. Our engineers are working with the storage platform to restore service; we will share further updates as we learn more.
