** How does this change impact you? **

Login to Weber: The change will simplify logging into Weber. Weber users currently need to authenticate to Luna VPN or VDI with Luna credentials, and then additionally authenticate to Weber with BoilerAD credentials. After the change, users will just need to use their Luna password when logging into Weber resources, including via ThinlLinc, SMB, and SSH. Luna password will be the same password as is currently used to log into the VPN.

ThinlLinc: Anyone accessing Weber via ThinLinc directly from their endpoint will need to switch to using ThinLinc from a Luna Desktop.

Data Egress: File egress will be disabled, and users will need to submit a ticket each time they wish to transfer files outside weber. Egress to Apricon drives will no longer be supported on regular endpoints.

During the maintenance window, job scheduling though Slurm and network drive mounts of Weber storage will be unavailable.

These changes position Purdue to meet the requirements of CMMC Level 2 compliance and will be crucial for continuation of various grants and contracts.

**How does this impact you? ** We have paused job scheduling on the CPU nodes. You can continue to submit jobs to Gautschi nodes, however the jobs will remain queued until after the maintenance is complete.

The cooling leak does not affect Gautschi AI nodes. Therefore, those nodes continue to operate normally.

During this time, Fortress will receivea major upgrade to its software. This will include some database conversions to add/modify some database tables and columns. Any transfers which request files sent to or from Fortress will either block or fail until this maintenance is completed.

Note that this outage is entended to the next morning because of full floor power work being done in the data center that Fortress is housed in. It was deemed better to leave the system unavailable rather than bring it up and then back down for the power outage.

During this maintenance window, several clusters will experience a temporary outage so that hardware can be safely powered down while facility work is performed:

• Gautschi, Gilbreth, Negishi, Bell, and Anvil cluster nodes will be powered down.

• The Gilbreth’s legacy V100 GPUs, that are well past their lifetime, will be decommissioned.

• Hammer (Math nodes) and Geddes: A subset of nodes will be powered down but the services will be available, unless communicated separately.

• Clusters listed in this message won’t be available to run jobs during the maintenance.

Users can still interact with and manage their Geddes deployments via the command line with kubectl by updating their KUBECONFIG to use: current-context: "geddes-kube00" instead of: current-context: "geddes"

The Anvil system will be unavailable on December 11th, 2025, from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM ET for scheduled maintenance. During this maintenance, we will perform NVIDIA driver upgrades and rebuild Slurm with PMIx.

Any Slurm jobs requesting a walltime that would extend past Thursday, December 11th at 7:00 AM ET will not start and will remain in the queue until after maintenance is completed.

The Rossmann cluster is scheduled for maintenance and will be unavailable on Tuesday, December 9th, 2025 at 8:00am EDT until 5:00pm EDT.

What is being upgraded?

During this maintenance, Rossmann will have its scheduler's configurations updated to allow for resources to be purchased and allocated on the basis of CPU and GPU hour.

How does this affect you?

• Slurm jobs that are still queued when this maintenance begins on Tuesday, Dec 9th, 2025 at 8:00am EDT will be deleted.
• Your Slurm account names will change. Accounts using CPU resources will be suffixed with "-cpu" and accounts using GPU resources will be suffixed with "-gpu".
• A reservation will be created that will prevent jobs from starting if their end time would take the job past the start of maintenance. Because pending jobs will be deleted, these jobs will never run.
• Your CPU jobs will now be billed by the CPU-hour as the GPU jobs on Rossmann are currently.
• The output of slist and the default output of squeue will be modified to be more useful under the new design.
• The preemptible QOS will now utilize the GraceTime feature of Slurm allowing preemptible users to more easily checkpoint their jobs.
